We don't know how many families have experienced the pain we know all too well in Newtown because of Washington's failure to act. We can't quantify the impact on our children's safety – their ability to go to school, a movie or simply outside to play without fear of gun violence.
But we do have some numbers, and this one is pretty terrifying: Six million.
That's right, an estimated six million firearms have been privately sold without background checks since Manchin-Toomey failed. That's more than 16,400 weapons sold – potentially to dangerous criminals or mentally unstable individuals – every day.
Please share this important graphic about preventing gun violence today. Stand with Sandy Hook Promise and reaffirm your commitment to a holistic approach to preventing gun violence that includes common sense measures like universal background checks, building stronger communities and prioritizing mental health and wellness.
