Every April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the national theme for this month in 2014 is "Healthy Sexuality & Young People." In recognition of this month, we at See the Triumph are turning our attention to the theme of "Healthy Sexuality, Healthy Relationships."

Throughout this month, stay connected with us for resources and blog posts that will address the following two main messages we're focusing on:

  1. Healthy sexuality is essential for healthy relationships.
  2. Sexual abuse can occur within the context of intimate partner violence.

We're focusing on the first message because sexuality is one of the most intimate parts of couples' relationships. Because of this, it's a critical component of an overall healthy relationship. This goes beyond sexual behaviors to include the ways that people communicate about sex and physical affection, how decisions about safety and sexual health are made, and partners' sexual self-esteem. The second message is important to us because sexual abuse is often a hidden and unrecognized part of intimate relationships.

To help promote healthy sexuality and raise awareness about Sexual Assault Awareness month, we invite you to take our pledge to take action by sharing information about healthy sexuality throughout the month. We'll provide the resources and information to help make this easier for you.

We invite you to take the following steps in taking this pledge:

1. Connect with us on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/seethetriumph

2. Check out our resources, links, and blog posts throughout the month to find information that is relevant to people in your community and social networks.

 3. Share the information about healthy sexuality with others in your network to help raise awareness and connect people to information and resources to promote healthy sexuality and understand the dynamics of sexual abuse within intimate partner violence.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month provides a great opportunity to raise awareness about how healthy sexuality is such an important aspect of healthy relationships. We hope you'll join us in spreading this message throughout the month!

Thanks for all you're doing to end the stigma surrounding intimate partner violence!
