My friend Michael out here on the coast of Oregon has been trying to quit for 40 years. He is 55 years old and now has COPD. The reason he can't quit cigarettes is that he is on high does of psychotropic drugs that psychiatry prescribes to people (mostly on medicaid) diagnosed by them as "mentally ill." These drugs sedate the personality and will so many people on psychotropics for bipolar, schizophrenia crave nicotine as the only way to get a brief if momentary rise out of heavy zombie-like sedation 24 hours a day. Cigarettes and COPD are insult to the injury of therapy by drugs alone that statistically takes 25 to 30 years off the lifespan of anyone on these drugs longterm.
