The only action required by the Minister of Environmental Affairs, Edna Molewa, to end this massacre is simply to restore the three sections of the fence, totalling approx. 50km. In 2013, 1 004 Rhinos were poached and a further 446 since January 2014, with the Kruger National Park at the forefront. The reason being, is that poachers from Mozambique are stealthily crossing over the border freely.........Why? In December 2002, the Presidents of South Africa , Mozambique and Zimbabwe signed a treaty to increase the habitat for wildlife and encourage animals to roam between the countries' nature reserves, which resulted in several areas of the 356km border fence being dropped.
The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Edna Molewa, received a R232.2 million grant to "help combat rhino poaching in southern Africa". Let's watch this space...............
The Dutch and Swedish Postcode Lotteries made the funding available to the Peace Parks Foundation. The Dutch Postcode Lottery donated a total of R217 million, with R15.2 million being contributed by the Swedish Postcode Lottery.
