January 2014 Update
Our efforts towards promoting RSD/CRPS awareness in the last few months, have been amazing. In September, we made major strides during Pain Awareness month to not only inform others about RSD but we also managed to recruit many more supporters to the foundation. As many of you know, this cause is near and dear to my heart, as I have been battling CRPS for over seven years. I'm happy to say that I've been doing great, since my last ketamine infusion in October.
Here at the foundation, we are still getting input on HR 1020, which is the 2005 Pain Bill that went dormant on the House floor. In July, I began teaming with the Pain Management Nurse/Liaison at the INOVA Hospital System to teach Lunch & Learn classes to the Nursing Staff on RSD/CRPS and telling them about my journey. Also, I recently presented my treatment history to the Pain Board, to serve as an advocate, and assist other doctors and staff, who have not directly treated me, in gaining an understanding of my history with RSD/CRPS, while they're working on a implementing a system-wide protocol, that will be used in treating other patients.
My only goal, besides praying that I remain in a state of remission; is that I utilize my journey and experience to inform others of this little known condition, and to help those that are also suffering. You never know what it's like until you walk in the shoes of others. With that being said, if you could please take one minute of your time and pledge to inform one person of this foundation, you would be spreading awareness of this condition to hundreds of people. We go throughout our days, spending hours online, but taking one minute to do this, could make a difference in the lives of so many people. Thank you so much!
