Update #7 ·

Vietnam is #5 on CPJ's list of world's worst jailers

In our annual census, we found that Turkey, Iran, and China accounted for more than half of all journalists imprisoned around the world in 2013. We identified 211 journalists jailed for their work, the second worst year on record after 2012, when 232 journalists were behind bars.

Vietnam is number 5 on the list. It was found to be holding 18 journalists, up from 14 a year earlier, as authorities intensified a crackdown on bloggers, who represent the country’s only independent press.

Blogger Dieu Cay is among those imprisoned in Vietnam. At the time of this update, our petition to #FreeDieuCay is less than 600 signatures away from our goal of 10,000. If you haven't already done so, please help us by signing and sharing this petition: https://www.causes.com/freedieucay

Thank you!
