Vigils on Both Coasts Get Attention of Philippine Embassies!

Relief 2 Recovery held two successful vigils on December 10th. One in Los Angeles and one in Washington DC. While all 7 Consulate Generals met inside the DC Philippine Embassy,  Relief 2 Recovery held a vigil in the freezing with candles to remember the Filipinos lost in Typhoon Haiyan.  Posters reading "TPS for Bagong Bayani" and "I am the first line of aid for my family in the Philippines". Ambassador Cuisia acknowledged the importance of this issue by meeting with our representatives and said that he and the Consul Generals had put the TPS first on their agenda.

In Los Angeles, the vigil was also very successful.  Several reporters covered the event.  There were more than 60 people in attendance.  There were cultural performers that really set a powerful tone for the vigil.  We had cultural performers.  There was a flute trio, and a Filipino cultural singer and dancer from the Visayas region singing ili-ili a Visayas song gave a touch of our ethnicity with Malong and patadyong costume.  The soprano song made people cry. There were speeches delivered by Rev. Farley, Rev Walter, Sandra Fluke, PWC, Advancing Justice, FMC and Atty Sanga. More than 60 people attended, Bernardo Bernardo emceed and students from UCLA were also in attendance.

We know our campaign is really moving this issue, but we need to continue to show huge public support. The Philippine government has not yet made a request for TPS.
