It's not looking good for Sriracha, you guys
Yesterday a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge ordered that the Sriracha hot sauce plant in Irwindale be partially shut down in response to the odor complaints from nearby residents.
Judge Robert H. O'Brien ruled in favor of the city, ordering sauce maker Huy Fong Foods to cease any kind of operations that could be causing the odors and make immediate changes that would help mitigate them.
Notably, O'Brien acknowledged in his ruling that there was a "lack of credible evidence" linking the stated health problems to the odor.
It is unclear what the ruling means for next year's supply of Sriracha, but could lead to a halting of production altogether, making our favorite hot sauce more scarce.
Let's keep the pressure on the city of Irwindale to work with Huy Fong Foods and resolve the odor issue in a responsible way that doesn't interfere with Sriracha production!
