If staff are properly trained and monitored there is no excuse at all for mistreatment of residents or patients. It is inexcusable for care staff to treat their patients with a lack of dignity and respect. After all, it is the job they are getting paid to do i.e. to 'care' for the people that they are employed to look after. If they are incapable of doing this with empathy they are clearly in the wrong job and should be dismissed by the employers that are responsible for them. If the employers are employing workers to do a job that requires skill and a caring attitude it is up to the employers to ensure that they employ and train staff who are capable of doing the job effectively and of paying and monitoring their staff accordingly. They are ultimately responsible for the welfare of the people in their care.
