I went to public school with an all white student body and was beaten for being a "redskin" daily. Years later, many of the students who did not participate in the beating endured horrific guilt for not interfering with the students who beat me. Neither the students who watched helplessly or myself deserved this, nor did the students who beat me. The violence came from the adult world and television affirmed it!

The term "redskin" was originally used to describe the scalps of Native Americans, that were sold for profit by Bounty Hunters. These scalps were sold alongside animal skins therefore dehumanizing and disrespecting the Native American people.
