As an employee of GoAbroad, which has an office located in Tacloban City, Philippines I have helped launch this campaign for disaster relief. The goal of this campaign is to directly support colleagues, friends, and others in the communities in and around Tacloban City, which has just been devastated by Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).

In November of 2012 I was fortunate to make my first trip to Tacloban City in order to visit GoAbroad's Asia headquarters. I spent a week getting to know the staff and learning about the Filipino culture. It truly changed my life.

In August of 2013 I was overjoyed to learn that I would be returning to Tacloban City to spend a month focusing on training new staff. During the four weeks that I spent in the Philippines I fell in love with the people, culture, and general way of life. My colleagues became more than co-workers, they became friends and family.

During both of my trips to Tacloban I was able to participate in projects coordinated by Volunteer for the Visayans, a non-profit located in Tacloban that has been providing support to underprivileged children and families in the community for over a decade. In fact, I sponsor an 7 year old girl named Grace through the organization in order to provide her meals, school supplies, and other provisions.

It is with a heavy heart that I watch as the devastation progresses in Tacloban. While I am happy to have heard the voices of many friends that survived the storm, it's difficult to hear that many of them have lost everything but their lives. I know that what I can do to help is limited, but I also know that I can raise funds that I can guarantee will provide relief and support to the communities that have been affected by this storm, something that is quite rare in a situation like this.

Please donate any amount you can to this cause; every little bit counts and will surely be benefiting those in the communities who need it most.
