Our son is similar to Pauline in abilities. He was born in Canada & has Canadian & British passports. He has travelled with us to the US, UK, Europe, the Caribbean, China, Australia, New Zealand -- more places than I can remember.
For people who do not drive, read or write, passports are excellent photo id for many types of applications. They are meant to facilitate travel in the free world, not trap people within their own countries.
This is an international human rights issue, worthy of the EU, UN & other international agencies. International shame & fines may result.
Hopefully, this can be resolved sensibly & fairly. Pauline deserves to live & travel as she & her family are able.
