This cause is important to me for a couple of different reasons. First, my mom and 2 of her sisters have had breast cancer. All 3 survivors! Secondly, as a mammographer, I see a lot of women fighting the fight. It's great to see them come out winners and sad to see those who lose the battle. What I don't understand is when women won't have a mammogram because it hurts. But how many of those women have gone through labor and delivery numerous times?!?! A mammogram can be uncomfortable, but the earlier you catch a cancer then the better your chances of coming out victorious over it. I encourage each of you to think of yourself, as well as those that love you, and give yourself the gift of a mammogram. If you don't have insurance, there are resources out there to help!

One in three women will have cancer in their lifetime and one in eight will have breast cancer. Screening helps reduce cancer deaths because doctors can catch the disease early. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. By helping to screen both yourself and your family, you can help better determine your family's risk for breast cancer, and better prevent it.
