Palm oil is very bad for one's health. The only people who profit from this are the plantation owners. We are not only putting the orangutans at risk, but those of human beings as well. Before buying products like cakes, cookies etc. check the ingredients. If they contain palm oil, don't buy them. They are trans fat and contribute to clogged arteries, high cholesterol levels etc. and can provoke heart attacks and strokes!
How you can help
The rainforests of Indonesia's Leuser Ecosystem are the last place on Earth that can support viable populations of these rare and critically endangered species. Protecting this extraordinary place is essential if the Sumatran orangutan, tiger, rhino and elephant are going to continue to survive in the wild.
The stakes are high and local plaintiffs need you to have their backs as they stand up for the Leuser Ecosystem in the courts of Indonesia. Sign the petition today.
In rainforests half a world away from the United States, orangutans are making their last stand for survival. Scientists warn that these gentle and intelligent animals, among humankind's closest kin, could become extinct within our lifetime if their rainforest homes continue to be destroyed for palm oil plantations. But the primary threat pushing them toward extinction lies much closer to home…
