I wanted to send a big thank you to all of you who recognized that a good option for some unemployed people is to create their own job.

As California's legislative session comes to a close, I regret to inform you that California missed an opportunity to create a Self-Employment Assistance (SEA) program that would have created 5,200 new businesses and 15,000 new jobs - from the ranks of the unemployed. You can read more here:
Rest assured that we will continue to work to integrate self-employment into the workforce system. Also, I thought you'd be interested in the following recent reports:
1. Very small businesses create the jobs. From 2004 to 2010, U.S. micro-businesses (1 to 4 employees) created a net of 5.5 million jobs; large businesses (those with greater than 500 employees) lost 1.8 million jobs during the same period.
2. Self employment is a true labor market trend. http://www.mbopartners.com/state-of-independence/independent-workforce-index.html
We are working hard to make sure the related institutions understand this and change to recognize this reality. If you're interested in helping us move mountains, stay in touch through this page or sign up for our newsletter on our website. microbiz.org.
