Thanks for launching this campaign, Jimmy. It's an important reminder that we can all be doing more. I just looked at my desk and realized that every day over the past week I've gone out for coffee and bought a disposable cup, which is an unnecessary waste. Each time I go to the restroom and wash my hands, I could use and throw away a couple of paper towels. Each time I eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack, and wipe my mouth and hands, I could throw away a couple paper napkins. I could throw away a dozen paper towels and napkins each day, or reuse one cloth towel.
It's wasteful to produce a paper cup, use it once, then throw it away--even if we dispose of the cup via recycling or composting. That's reason enough to use a reusable coffee cup, but the story is more complicated than that. Many coffee cups are lined with plastic. Are those cups recyclable? Only in some facilities.
