The death penalty is so last millennium! More than two thirds of world's countries have abolished capital punishment entirely - including every state in Europe other than Belarus, all of South America bar Guyana, and much of Africa. Most others use it rarely if ever; and every two years a clear majority support a UN Resolution calling for a worldwide ban (in December 2012: 111 voted for a ban vs 41 against). However, a few countries - China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan among them, and some states in the USA - especially
Texas, still regularly put people to death - though, even China, which executes far more people than the rest of the world put together, has taken steps in recent years to restrict the use of the death penalty, while a number of US states have abolished it altogether. Killing people to show people that killing people is wrong, is just so wrong… - let’s consign the death penalty to the trash can of history, everywhere.
