On Tuesday morning, I arrived at the Capitol Building in Tallahassee, Florida to deliver over 67,000 petition signatures in support of Trayvon's Law. 40,000 of those signatures demanded a Pardon for Marissa Alexander and 27,000 of them asked for George Zimmerman to be stripped of his gun rights.
In the absence of Governor Rick Scott, I delivered the petitions to Dream Defenders, the group of passionate and dedicated individuals who have spent the past 31 days occupying the state capitol in an enthusiastic act of civil disobedience. They will carry on the mission of making sure our voices are heard by the Governor.
While each petition had independent asks – they both spoke to the same demand, the passing of Trayvon’s Law which would repeal “Stand your Ground” in Florida, put an end to racial profiling, and eliminate the school to prison pipeline.
My sincere gratitude goes out to each and every person who signed this petition, but the fight is not yet over. We will continue to fight for justice for Marissa Alexander, Trayvon Martin, and the others who have been victimized by a corrupt judicial system!
