The orphaned deer who touched the hearts of many in Kansas City has been found dead. Now, the question is why was Ella targeted?
It was Sunday that a security guard found Ella shot to death near the gates of the Elmwood Cemetery, which she called home for two years.
She was born in the cemetery and lived there after her mother was hit by a car and killed in 2011 shortly after giving birth. Ella gained fame for her friendship with a stray dog.
The two had spent months together, but the dog was picked up by wayside waifs before last winter, knowing it couldn't survive in the cold weather. We're told the two were going to be reunited soon.
"Stupidity and shock. You wonder how somebody could do that and what type of person they were and I'll just be kind and say that I think it was somebody with a very hard heart and a confused mind," says Bruce Mathews, a spokesperson for the cemetery.
Her ashes will be buried on the cemetery grounds..
