Update #2 ·

Proving hope in times of chaos and despair

Official estimates confirm the grim prognosis: death toll in Uttarakhand is very likely above 10.000. The situation on the ground in the disaster hit region is unbearable for the survivors and the pilgrims that are still stranded and are waiting for rescue.

Despite mass cremations conducted among others by priests of the Parmarth Niketan Ashram and Ganga Action Parivar, diseases are reported to spread as the bodies of the dead are decaying below the rubber or in the waters of the Ganga: http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/06/29/311383/india-monsoon-flooding-toll-above-10000/

At the same time, Ganga Action Parivar has teamed up with TERI, the new organization of Dr. Pachauri who headed the Nobel Peace Price awarded International Panel on Climate Change. Together, they committed to prepare a strategy for the ecological reconstruction of the hardest-hit region where 97 % of all houses are destroyed.

Through Project Hope, Ganga Action Parivar commits to adopt some of the most destroyed villages and oversee their reconstruction according to the newest knowledge of green, ecological and disaster-preventive development: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/uttarakhand-teri-ganga-action-parivar-to-prepare-green-report/articleshow/20817658.cms
