Spring Hill Garden on CHA's Somerville Hospital campus

Gardens not only have the power to build our bodies, but also soothe our souls. One of the projects your Earth Day pledge is supporting is helping to make the connection between gardens and health in the Greater Boston Area.

The Spring Hill Garden on Cambridge Health Alliance's (CHA) Somerville Hospital campus is providing therapeutic opportunities for the hospital community via its Victims of Violence Program.  Participants volunteer weekly, helping to plant, tend and harvest the garden. In doing so, group members have opportunities to explore their own growth cycles and to connect to life affirming aspects of themselves and their capacities to contribute to the well-being of others. Fresh, healthy produce from the Spring Hill Garden is being shared with local food pantries, the CHA HIV pantry, area shelters and residence programs.

Thanks to the funds raised through our Earth Day campaign, the folks at Spring Hill Garden will be able to grow more food and reach more people this year. Their plans this year include buying season extension items and getting more of their produce into the hospital cafeteria. Thank you for joining our campaign and for doing your part to help nourish others, both body and soul.
