One year ago, Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina declared a "state of siege" in Santa Cruz Barillas, suspending constitutional rights in order to round up community leaders. All of those detained were eventually released because there was absolutely no evidence against them. However, they spent up to 8 months in jail, away from their families and their responsibilities. Now, Ruben Herrera is suffering the same fate at the same time that Guatemalan government has declared a state of siege in the eastern part of the country in order to terrorize environmental activists there. Tell the Guatemalan government that it is time to stop using the courts as a tool of repression. Free Rubén Herrera!
