Update on January 19, 2013
The response from the US Park Service to our petition can
be read at :
. The response is not personalized to our petition because
it is pre-written and obviously sent to people who have inquired about the
recent killings of the Yellowstone Park wolves.
Park wide, the population declined from 171 wolves to 80 as of December
12, 2012. (9 of the killed wolves were
collared and 6 were non collared.) Their
position is that wolves can be legally killed outside the park. There is no mention of a buffer zone. There is absolutely no mention of a plan to
stop the killing of Yellowstone wolves which leave the park. They accept the legality of these killings
because of the de-listing of wolves in the surrounding states. This response is not surprising. The particular verbiage is the use of the
word "harvesting" of wolves rather than the reality of it…killing and murdering
wolves is extremely horrible, but it is standard to describe killings of wolves.
Wolves are not crops!
