Update on September 21, 2012
Though half a world away, all of us at Share Worldwide are celebrating today with the miners at Lonmin's Marikana platinum mine in South Africa, who began today! Lonmin agreed to a pay deal, giving its 28,000 workers up to a 22 percent pay raise.
As exciting as this victory is for all of us who signed the petition to Lonmin, the past couple weeks exposed the inequalities between a small, politically connected elite and the majority of impoverished people in South Africa. As labor unrest continues at other mines across the country, look out for more opportunities we promote to advocate for justice and human rights for all!
