Update #6 ·

Update on September 07, 2012

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This poll has reached its goal of 2000 votes. Actually the original goal was 100, then 500, then 1000, then 1500 and finally 2000. This is the first time I've waited until the goal was reached before raising the goal again because… well, why not?

Whatever your position on mandatory vaccination I appreciate your interest in participating. The voting very quickly settled itself into the the 71% in favour, 25% opposed and 4% not sure. The results have been consistent since the poll began.

It appears to me that the comments about this poll do not reflect the results. While I haven't counted I'd estimate that at least half the comments are opposed to vaccination or mandates or both. It seems that those in opposition to the idea of mandatory vaccines for healthcare professionals are more vocal than supporters.

If you support mandated flu shots I'd encourage you to visit http://www.causes.com/causes/787378-the-immunization-initiative/actions/1680862 and sign the petition. With sufficient support we can create momentum for change that could improve safety for everyone in our health care system.

If you're interested in countering the arguments of the anti-vaccination promoters I suggest you visit http://www.causes.com/causes/786814-the-anti-anti-vaccine-campaign and take an action. The Anti-Anti-Vaccine Campaign is dedicated to toning down the volume of anti-vaccine campaigners by encouraging people not to spread their propaganda on Facebook. It can make a difference. Please visit, read the information, and take the anti-anti-vaccine pledge.

Thank you again for your interest. The Immunization Initiative is committed to increasing awareness of the importance of vaccination in our world. Thank you for doing your part.

Cheers,

Daniel Weinstein
