Update on August 16, 2012
Thanks to all of you who have taken a stand against excessive police brutality in Anaheim! Both the U.S. Attorney's Office and the FBI have responded to citizens' collective call for justice, and will be conducting their own individual investigations into the shootings. Additionally, the FBI continues to review the cases to determine if they warrant a civil rights investigation as well.
Meanwhile, the violence continues in turbulent city, with yet another police shooting (http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-anaheim-man-shot,0,1313219.story) of a supposed gang-member last week. Sounding all-too reminiscent of last month's two fatal officer-involved shootings that triggered city-wide protests - witnesses are saying that the recent victim was unarmed and merely walking down the street when he was shot.
Is the increase in police officer violence truly a justified response to an uptick in gang activity and violent crime in Anaheim? Many community activists maintain that there is racial profiling of Latinos at play, making Anaheim police too "trigger-happy." As the debate rages on, keep inviting your friends (http://www.causes.com/causes/621636-civic-engagement-make-our-voices-heard/actions/1670668?open_inviter=true&utm_source=GenericAnaheimWeekly&utm_medium=UpdateEmail&utm_campaign=Generic&utm_nooverride=1) to sign the petition urging the FBI to open a civil rights investigation of the Anaheim police department!
