Dear Supporter

I wrote to you recently about Pelangsi, the orangutan in Borneo that was trapped in a snare for ten agonising days before we reached him and cut him free. He was close to death when we arrived, with part of his arm and right hand infected and damaged beyond repair.

I asked you to help with the cost of lifesaving surgery for Pelangsi to remove his withered hand, which meant bringing a specialist vet from Hong Kong to assist our own expert team. And you didn’t let me down. Thanks to you we raised enough money to pay for the operation which took place just a few days ago.

I’m thrilled to tell you that all went smoothly and Pelangsi is recovering well. We are monitoring him closely for any signs of further infection, but so far, so good. He is looking bright and alert and enjoying his food – which is always a good sign!

Even without any complications, it is likely to be a couple of months before Pelangsi is ready to return to the wild. Until then, he is safe and in very good hands. We will continue to keep him under close observation while trying to minimise the stress he is suffering at living in a cage for the first time in his life.

I can’t thank you enough for helping us care for Pelangsi and repair the damage he has suffered at human hands. I will continue to keep you posted on his progress, via our website and Facebook page, as he continues along the road to recovery and eventual return to the rainforest. And if you missed the chance to contribute to my earlier appeal for help, there is still time. We must now pay the costs of his care and rehabilitation and the costs of monitoring him after he is released back into the rainforest.

Thank you for any support you have given, or plan to give today. We simply couldn’t have saved Pelangsi’s life without you.

Yours sincerely
