This elephant, just like the rhino was slaughtered for the 2 horns on its face. They are also quite hard to kill so it is very likely that this poor animal was still alive while poached hacked away to get its tusks. As you can see the elephants head is practically non existent. This is because their tusks run up quite far into the elephants head and poachers can make more money for larger intact tusks so they often destroy most of the elephants head to keep tusks in one piece.
