A toxin-free Mother's Day
TAKE ACTION: Let’s save lives by limiting mercury pollution from coal fired power plants!
As many as 1 in 6 American women have enough mercury in their bodies to put their baby at risk of brain damage, learning disabilities and birth defects.
And about HALF of the mercury found in the U.S. currently comes from coal-fired power plants.
That’s why the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is going to limit mercury pollution coming from coal-fired power plants. But before the decision can be made final, one last round of public comments is required.
This is our chance to give EPA the public support necessary for this to hold up against the future attacks that will be coming from dirty energy interests, industry lobbyists and their friends in Congress once the decision has been made.
The comment period is only open for a short time. And given what's at stake for mothers, it seemed that Mother's Day was a great time to start collecting them.
This Mother’s Day, give the gift of toxin-free air on behalf of the special mom in your life. Submit a comment to EPA now and urge them to to strictly limit mercury and other toxic pollution from coal-fired power plants.
The facts are clear. Limiting mercury pollution will save lives. According to EPA, the proposed limits will prevent 17,000 premature deaths, 11,000 heart attacks and an astounding 120,000 cases of childhood asthma.
The moms, families and communities that live in the shadows of these coal plants are counting on EPA to stop toxic pollution. For these people, it is literally life or death.
And for the communities across the country who are working to shut down dirty coal plants, letting EPA do its job is absolutely critical. The coal industry knows this and that’s why they are going to do everything in their power to roll back this decision. Every comment we collects makes it more difficult for them to do that.
EPA has taken a courageous stand against the industry by proposing to limit mercury pollution. Send them some love and send some love to mothers everywhere by submitting a comment today.
It’s time to quit coal.
