New York, NY -- The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation ( today announced it has received the highest, 4-star, rating for the second consecutive year from Charity Navigator's, the nation's premier charity evaluator. This highest rating, 4-stars, reflects the leadership the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation has demonstrated in executing its mission in a fiscally responsible way. The Fisher Center has earned the 4-star rating 7 times in the last 11 years. No other Alzheimer's related charity has so consistently received Charity Navigator's highest rating. This "Exceptional" designation from Charity Navigator differentiates the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation from its peers and demonstrates to the public that it is worthy of its trust.

Kent Karosen, President and CEO of the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, said, "We sincerely hope this will encourage donors to help us further our goal to stop Alzheimer's disease by supporting an organization that will utilize their dollars in the most financially responsible way. Their dollars will go to fund innovative research, primarily that of Nobel laureate, Dr. Paul Greengard, and his team of 50 internationally renowned scientists. We believe that his lab's research efforts hold the greatest hope for finding an effective treatment that will stem, or even halt, the progression of the disease. It is my privilege to announce to you today that they are on the brink of a promising new breakthrough. Earlier, they discovered a previously unknown protein, Gamma Secretase Activating Protein (GSAP) that regulates the formation of beta amyloid in the brain without interfering with other life processes. Based on this finding, they are now focusing their research efforts on one very specific interacting protein, which works together with GSAP, to understand how these two proteins interrelate in beta amyloid production. The answers they find will be a giant step forward in the pursuit of an Alzheimer's treatment and cure."

Barry R. Sloane, President and CEO of Century Bank commented, "As Chairman of the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, I could not be more proud of this extraordinary organization. The work the Foundation supports will help the lives of millions of people."
