WildEarth Guardians' 2013 Priorities: A Courageous Voice for the Natural World

A new year is upon us and WildEarth Guardians has bold, innovative and fierce plans to make 2013 a better world. While our core mission is to protect and restore wildlife, wild places and wild rivers in the American West, here is a glimpse at more specifically what we'll be focused on in 2013:

In 2013 we're continuing our commitment to celebrate species diversity, honoring all creatures both large and small by securing further endangered species protections, and by replacing the war on wildlife with compassion and coexistence. We'll also be defending wolves in courts and working to continue educating the public beyond deep-seated myths of intolerance and ignorance. We will also advocate for ocean species like Great White Sharks.

Wild Rivers:

With the hiring process under way, WildEarth Guardians will be bringing on board a Wild Rivers Program Director this year to take on water rights for the mighty Rio Grande, a river which without direct action could become another dried-up ghost river. We're also standing up for the Gila River, the last undammed, and truly wild river in the Southwest. And, we'll continue to breathe back life into degraded ecosystems by growing our river restoration program.

Wild Places:

In our eyes public lands are a part of every citizen's birthright therefore this year we're remaining focused on grazing retirement both in the Gila Wilderness, and through Federal policy reform. We're also working in Colorado to protect pristine headwater streams and the last wild national forests. We're also bringing back beavers in an effort to adapt to climate change and tackling motorized wreakreation in our forests in an effort to retain our beautiful Santa Fe National Forest.

Climate and Energy:

And for the climate and the health of us all, we'll continue our charge to power the nation past our addiction to coal by exposing its true costs to this country starting at the source as well as at polluting coal-fired power plants. We're also taking on disastrous fracking, and working to give kids a future by continuing our innovative lawsuit to ensure that the climate is recognized as a part of the public trust.

One thing WildEarth Guardians supporters can count on is for us to be courageous, persistent, and consistent. We appreciate your activism and hope that you'll stay-tuned to all we have to look forward to in this New Year.
