Help Fund our Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network
Please help us meet our goal of raising $5000 by the end of December through Global Giving's Winter Challenge, to fund our Marine Mammal Stranding Network. We are half way there, with $2593 raised from over 50 donors, but we need to reach $5000 by December 31st to become a permanent project on the Global Giving site.

Orca Network's Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network covers three counties and responds to the 2nd highest number of strandings in WA State. We conduct necropsies and test samples to gather information on the health of marine mammals and oceans, and field hundreds of calls about live seal pups on beaches, providing extensive public education about seal pups & marine mammals. Orca Network currently has no funding to pay for our stranding network, and are experiencing a high number of porpoise strandings, some with a disease that also affects humans. The information we gather from stranded porpoise also relates to the health of our endangered Southern Resident orcas, and to the overall health of the ocean and other marine mammals.
We have been funded by NOAA Fisheries since 2006, but have not been funded since June 2012, and the NOAA Grants program is on the chopping block in the Federal budget - future funding of all Stranding Networks will be cut. Even with the current level of funding, only half the programs are funded each year. We provide hundreds of volunteer hours each year, but need funding for our hotline, Marine Mammal Vet, sample testing, and response time and travel, especially with a steep rise in porpoise deaths.
Please help us reach our goal, and either donate or share this link with others; or just visit the site to learn more about what our Stranding Network does:
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
Wow - we just received a message from a wonderful angel who wishes to remain anonymous, that she will match any donations that come in today or tomorrow (up until we reach our goal of $5000) - so when you donate, know that whatever you give will be doubled!!
Only 2 days and 7 hours left to raise $795 more to reach our goal of raising $5000 for Orca Network's Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network...
We have received 87 donations totalling $4205 - that is SO AWESOME, THANKS to all the wonderful folks out there who have supported us in this important fundraising campaign!
But we have to reach $5000 in the next 2 days to gain a permanent spot on the Global Giving website, so we can continue to have access to new donors to support our programs - time is running out!
Please donate if you can (via the link below), and share with others you think may be able to help - thanks so very much!!
We've reached $3110 of our goal of $5000! If we collect the most donations over the weekend, we receive a bonus donation of $500 - help us spread the word ~
