We're ALMOST there...just ONE more little thing to do!

The California bill prohibiting landlords from requiring declawing cats and debarking dogs has passed both sides of the legislature and is on Gov. Brown's desk for signature. As you may remember, former Gov. Schwarzenegger vetoed it the last time it passed at the urging of the California Veterinary Medical Association.

We are SO close! Please take a moment to call or write to urge Gov. Brown to sign the bill!

PLEASE ASK GOVERNOR BROWN TO SIGN SB 1229. California Governor Jerry Brown has until September 30 to sign SB 1229, the bill sponsored by the Paw Project and HSVMA. His signature would make California the 1st state in the nation to prohibit landlords from requiring declawing and devocalization of companion animals as a condition of tenancy.

There are two easy things for California residents to do (and please share these ideas with your contacts through whatever means you can – email, Facebook,Twitter, etc.):

1. CALL. Call Governor Brown's office to ask him to SIGN SB 1229. His office number is (916) 445-2841.

2. EMAIL. Follow up with an email to Governor Brown and ask him to SIGN SB 1229. Here's a link to the governor's website where you can fill out a form to contact him:

Please let Governor Brown know that SB 1229 will protect tenants from being forced to choose between securing housing for their families and subjecting their pets to unnecessary, costly and life-altering surgical procedures. SB 1229 recognizes the importance of keeping pets with their families. Urge Governor Brown to protect California families and their pets by signing SB 1229 into law.

Don't forget--you can call or write even if you *don't* live in California--tell them your travel dollars will not be spent in a state that won't protect the animals!
