Release Behnam Irani

Behnam Irani, aged 41, is a church pastor in Iran who is imprisoned in the notorious Karaj Ghezal Hesar prison because of his religious faith.

His health is reported to be declining steadily as a result of regular beatings at the hands of other prisoners and guards.

He now has difficulty walking, is unable to see well and is suffering from a bleeding ulcer, which has caused him to lose consciousness.

Behnam, who is married with two children, is serving a total of six years in prison but his family fear he could die within the next few months.

Please help to secure the release of this Pastor by sending an email to the Head of the Judiciary in Iran, His Excellency Ayatollah Sadegh Ardeshir Larijani, asking for clemency and release for Behnam.

Please use the pre-written email you can access by clicking the following link (just add your name and location at the end): http://www.releaseinternational.org/pages/behnam-irani.php

UPDATE #1
Keep Pastor Behnam in your
prayers

Thank you for praying for Pastor Behnam Irani.

Recent news from
Iran has confirmed that Pastor Behnam's health is improving. He still has problems with his back and digestive
system, but despite not receiving medical aid from the Iranian authorities, his
condition has stabilised and is not getting worse.

Please continue to pray for Behnam
and his family - that they will soon be re-united, and give thanks that Behnam's
health has improved.

UPDATE #2
Please Keep Behnam In Your Prayers

Pastor Behnam Irani remains in prison in Iran and it is very difficult to get regular news about him. The latest information we have is that he still shares a cell measuring about 40ft by 40ft with 34 other prisoners most of whom are serving sentences for murder or drug dealing. We understand that Behnam is in good spirit but he is still suffering from back pain and stomach problems.

Please continue to pray for Behnam, and his family, who all need your continuing love and prayerful support.

UPDATE #3
Pray For Behnam

On top of all his other health problems, we have recently heard that Pastor Behnam now has back problems and is unable to walk.

* Please keep Behnam in your thoughts and prayers.
* Please pray that he will be allowed to receive all the necessary medical treatment that he requires from the Iranian authorities.
* Please pray for Behnam's family, that they will remain healthy and strong in faith.
* Please tell your friends about Behnam and help them to remember Behnam in their prayers.
* Please click on this link: http://www.releaseinternational.org/pages/behnam-irani.php (http://www.releaseinternational.org/pages/behnam-irani.php) to go to the Release International website where you can send an email directly to the Head of the Judiciary in Iran asking for clemency and release for Behnam.
* Please keep praying.
Thank you.

UPDATE #4
Please don't forget Behnam!

Thank you for keeping Pastor Behnam in your thoughts and prayers since our last message. Please continue to pray for Behnam, who remains in prison and in need of proper medical treatment, and for his wife and two children who are trying to carry on with life as best they can without him.

Behnam has been in prison for 619 days, simply for practising Christianity. As we remember him and his family in prayer, please ask God to grant them His peace which passes understanding, and wholeness and healing for Behnam.

If you haven't already emailed the Iranian authorities on his behalf, you can do so by clicking here: http://www.releaseinternational.org/pages/behnam-irani.php (http://www.releaseinternational.org/pages/behnam-irani.php)

Please encourage your friends to do likewise to show the Iranian Government that Behnam is not forgotten.

UPDATE #5
Behnam Irani Update

Thank you for your continuing prayerful support for Iranian pastor Behnam Irani and his family.

Behnam is being held in a communal prison cell in the Ghezal Hesar prison in Karaj, Iran, which he shares with 40 other prisoners including drug dealers and addicts and murderers. He has been beaten by both prisoners and prison staff. His health remains poor.

At Behnam's trial the judge mentioned the crime of apostasy and it is feared that he may be tried for this and his sentence increased beyond the five years he is currently serving for crimes against national security.

Please tell others about his imprisonment in Iran by forwarding these updates and pointing them to our Facebook Cause for Pastor Behnam here: http://www.causes.com/causes/788902-release-behnam-irani/actions/1671330

If you haven't already done so please send an email requesting Behnam's release to the Head of the Iranian judiciary by clicking here: http://www.releaseinternational.org/pages/behnam-irani.php Please continue to pray for his release.

Thank you for all that you are doing to support Behnam and to raise awareness about his situation.
UPDATE #6
Don't forget Pastor Behnam!

Thank you for praying for Pastor Behnam Irani who is currently serving a five-year prison sentence in Iran because of his Christian beliefs. His faith is strong but he has suffered severe health problems.

Please continue to pray for Behnam's release so that he can receive proper medical care, and also for his wife and two young children.

Thank you to everyone who sent Behnam, or one of the other Christian prisoners of faith we listed on our website at www.releaseinternational.org a Christmas card. There is obviously no guarantee that the prisoner will have received the card but we know from released prisoners that some do get through and that all the ones received are valued by the prisoner as a token of Christian love confirming that they are not alone and that people outside their country know about them and care for them.

Please continue to pray for Pastor Behnam and his family, tell others about his imprisonment in Iran and send your email requesting his release to the Head of the Iranian judiciary by clicking here: http://www.releaseinternational.org/pages/behnam-irani.php

Please also pray for all the other Christians in Iran and elsewhere who are imprisoned for their faith and their families from whom they are separated simply because they have taken a stand for the sake of Christ.

May God bless you richly this Christmas as you 'remember those in chains' (Hebrews 13:3).

UPDATE #9
Send a Christmas Card to Pastor Behnam Irani

Thank you for praying for Pastor Behnam Irani and for emailing the Iranian authorities on his behalf (click here http://www.causes.com/causes/788902-release-behnam-irani ).

Pastor Behnam, who has a wife and two young children, has been in prison for his faith since May 2011 and is serving a five year sentence. His failing health is of great concern. As we approach Christmas please consider showing your care for Behnam by sending him a Christmas card. It will show him and others in the prison that he is not forgotten. The last day for posting cards to Iran by airmail is Friday (December 7) but it does not matter if the cards are posted after this date – they will be warmly received whenever they arrive.

Behnam's address is:

Behnam Irani
Ghezel Hesar Prison
Karaj, Albourz State,
Islamic Republic of Iran

We suggest that you include a verse of scripture in your card and please follow the guidelines for writing which we outline below.

Guidelines For Writing

For the safety of prisoners and those campaigning for their release, it is vital you follow these instructions carefully. Please, NEVER mention the name of your source of information or the name of Release International or other human rights organisations in your letters to prisoners or officials. It could put the work of those organisations at risk, and adversely affect the people we are trying to help.

Q: May I write in English?
A: Yes, write in English, but write clearly: your message must be legible if it needs to be translated. Many people study English, so there will often be someone to translate your words.

Q: What do I write?
A: Attractive Christian greeting cards are especially cherished. Express your Christian love and say you are praying. You can include a Bible verse, quote it and give the reference. Do not write about politics or criticise governments or other authorities.

Q: How do I send it?
A: Address the envelope by hand. Printed labels can look too official and draw attention to your letter. Mark the envelope 'Airmail' or use a blue Airmail sticker. Ensure you pay the correct postage. Mail your letter directly; do not send it to our office.

NOTE: We recommend that you give only your name and country, not your full address. Be aware also that unscrupulous individuals, claiming to be the prisoner, occasionally steal letters and solicit funds. We recommend that you never send money to anyone who responds to your letter. Contact us at Release Information for more information if you receive a reply (http://www.releaseinternational.org/pages/contact-us.php ).

It is often appropriate to add a short Bible verse to your letter, provided it could not be interpreted as being too political in tone.

Thank you for taking the time to write. There is obviously no guarantee that the prisoner will receive your card but we know from released prisoners that some do get through and that all the ones received are valued by the prisoner as a token of Christian love confirming that they are not alone and that people outside their country know about them and care about them.

UPDATE #10
LETTER FROM AN IRANIAN PRISON CELL

Despite his failing health in prison Iranian Pastor Behnam Irani has written a letter from his prison cell urging Christians to keep their love alive and strong.

He writes: 'I never forgot what made me thirsty for the knowledge and the contemplation in this faith. It was the love I received and witnessed in the lives of the believers.'

At the same time he describes how most of his fellow prisoners are addicted to drugs, especially crystal meth. 'I observed that this drug develops a condition that is called illusion. In this condition, individuals assume what is not real to be real and react to it. Somehow the root of much of the murderous violence that is happening among prisoners here is a result of the illusion caused by crystal meth abuses.' He adds: 'Unfortunately it seems the church is [suffering the same] illusion about love and is receding from the truth of Jesus' love more and more.'

'In jail I have attained new experiences about love. Here I live with cellmates that you can hardly see something positive in their lives and personalities. Neither God nor common values of the society have any place in their lives and thoughts. They don't think about anything but negative values, abhorrent acts, learning new experiences in crimes and nasty literature. I look at them and whisper to myself, 'do they really deserve prayers and intercessions?' Immediately, I remember that Jesus Christ was sacrificed for their sins too. 'He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.' (1 John 2:2)

'I break under this level of love. I become weary of myself for being unable to reflect this love to the darkness of my surroundings. I never condemn anyone. If I do I myself am much worthier of condemnation. I only warn: 'Oh church, be awake. Remember the love of the days of your engagement, the love that was free of selfishness.'
