Take Action - Walk!
There are so many good causes to get involved with and most of them want my money. I get that. It's about me living here in Canada, one of the very best countries in the world to live in - abundant in food, clean water, and opportunities. And I get to live here while millions...um, billions of people live in developing countries with so much less. Millions of people struggle daily for their basic needs. I should feel glad to help out where I can.
Trouble is, it's hard for me to feel like I'm really taking action when all I do is write a cheque or give a little cash. I want to physically do something more, but I can't actually go on a mission's trip right now!
That's why I like the idea of a Walk or a Run. It allows me to get out and actively participate in a cause. I am reminded with each step of the way that my energy is joining forces with my money to care about the people I'm trying to help. It doesn't matter if I know them personally or not. Its enough to know that they are moms who can't feed their kids, or they are children who are sick because of malnutrition, or their dads who've had to leave their families only to be paid a pittance at some far away menial job leaving their families vulnerable and impoverished.
A Walk or Run requires me to give my money, even fundraise for extra money and to make my physical presence part of changing the hopeless state of affairs for some person, some family, some village. That excites me!!
An obvious added benefit is that I get to accomplish a 5 or 10 K route, I get fresh air, I help meet a goal, and I get to be part of changing people's lives. Hope and Help are given and I get to be part of it. There's satisfaction in all of that!
There is a Walk coming up on April 12th:
A Walk For the Rice Reason at Mill Lake in Abbotsford, BC. from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. Cost is a bag of rice and $25 (single) $60 (family of 3 or more) $100 (team of 5 or more plus pledges gathered by the team for $300)
This is something I can do - I want to do! I can walk, jog, run or even help volunteer at! Want to join me?
