a5c7b9f00b Thomas Sullivan Magnum, IV grew up with a father in the Navy, who died when he was ten, and entered the Naval Academy at 18. Magnum, a third generation Naval officer, graduated the Academy, became a Navy Seal, and was sent to Vietnam. He made two life-long friends, Theodore "TC" Calvin and Orville "Rick" Wright, while serving in Vietnam. After the war, Magnum was transferred to Naval Intelligence, and stationed in Pearl Harbor. His buddies retired from the military. TC opened up a helicopter tour guide service, while Rick was a club manager. At the age of 33, Magnum woke up one morning and realized he was never 23. He quit the Navy, got a PI license and opened a practice in Hawaii. He was eventually hired by a world-renowned author and playboy, Robin Masters, to monitor security at Robin's Nest, a huge estate on the north shores of Oahu. Robin Masters would jet from one part of the world to another, and visit his various estates, and write best selling novels. Robin's Nest is run by Jonathan Quayle Higgins III, a proper Englishman. Higgins was in lineage of a Duke and served in the Royal Army as a Sergeant Major. Magnum lives in Robin's guest house, and drives Robin's Ferrari. As a result, Higgins treats Magnum as a leech; however deep down they have great respect for each other. The series follows Magnum on his various adventures, involving clients, guests staying on the estate, or plots involving his days in Vietnam. Magnum requires assistance occasionally from his friends, TC, Rick, Asst. D.A. Carol Baldwin, his buddies in Naval Intelligence; even Higgins lends a hand from time to time.
Thomas Sullivan Magnum, IV is an ex-Navy "NIA" (ONI) Lieutenant, and Vietnam Special Ops veteran who resigned his commission at age 33 because he never got to be 23. On the beautiful Hawaiian islands, Magnum is a P.I. who enjoys life, his buddies and friends and who works just hard enough to keep it real.
Magnum P.I. (1980-1988): Tom Selleck, John Hillerman, Roger E. Mosley, Larry Manetti, Director/Writer Donald P. Bellisario.

This eight-year series was, along with The A-Team and Miami Vice, possibly the most highly rated, successful 80's TV series. As with A-Team and Miami Vice, Magnum P.I. was a thriller/crime/adventure drama which aired during prime time evenings. The premise: Tom Magnum (Selleck) is a private detective working the state of Hawaii. His best friend and boss was Jonathan Higgins (Hillerman) an uptight, cultured and snobbish Englishman. His partner was TC Calvin (Mosley) and African-American cop Rick (Manetti). Against the Hawaiian paradise background full of beaches, hotels, beautiful women and green jungle, he encountered thrilling adventures, righting wrongs, extracting justice, doing detective work, risking his life many times to protect the innocent. It made a celebrity out of Tom Selleck. Despite subsequent successes, it is his role as Tom Magnum that he'll always be remembered for. He was even sexy to me when I was a little girl watching him as I skipped channels! He had a hairy chest which he revealed quite often in his loose Hawaiian shirts, bushy eyebrows and equally bushy mustache. He was also wearing those short-shorts which were popular in the 80's. Selleck played the role quite well, living the role so that each time he narrates the plot to the episodes in voice-over it sounds like Selleck's own memoirs. The show was
