a5c7b9f00b Unemployed and newly-divorced Stephanie Plum lands a job at her cousin's bail-bond business, where her first assignment puts her on the trail of a wanted local cop from her romantic past.
After losing her job, Jersey girl Stephanie Plum is broke. Needing a job she is told that her cousin, a bail bondsman, needs someone to help out in the office. But the only job openings he has are for skip tracers. She learns that Joe Morelli, a guy she knew intimately years ago, is one of the "skips". She eventually finds him but wasn't really prepared so he gets away. Another bounty hunter, Ranger, tries to teach her. Eventually she finds Morelli again, but he claims he is innocent of the crime he is accused of and he is trying to prove his innocence. Eventually Stephanie thinks he's telling the truth so she stakes out the person who can help him. She only finds herself in trouble and Morelli saves her. She tries to find someone who can prove his innocence, but the problem is that shortly after meeting with them they're killed or attacked.
First of all I made the mistake of reading the book just before the movie. Having met Janet Evanovich at a book signing several months ago I was anxiously awaiting the movie and wanted to be fully versed on all that is Stephanie Plum.

Let me first say that the movie is nothing like the book. They kept the original plot of Plum trying to collect bounty on Morelli but the movie even went so far as to minimize the cruelty and stalking by the boxer, which was a key part of the book "One for the Money". Overall the movie lacked the edge of your seat excitement and romantic tension between Plum and Morelli that came with reading the book.

That being said, although I never pictured her when reading the books, Katherine Heigl did a surprisingly good job in portraying Stephanie Plum. Debbie Reynolds was an awesome Grandma Mazur. I was also pleased with portrayals of the parents, Connie, and Vinnie.

Although they were good actors, Jason O'Mara as Morelli, Daniel Sunjata as Ranger, Sherri Shepherd as Lula just didn't fit. Anyone who has read any of the books know: Morelli is a drop dead gorgeous Italian, Ranger is a huge bad*@s with killer looks, and Lula is shall we say, over the top, constantly trying to fit a size 10-12 on a size 18-20 body. These are the characters Janet Evanovich fans have come to know and love and the actors in the movie just didn't fit the bill.
One for the Money - Better than expected since I have read all of the Evanvich , Stephanie Plum, series.....and Heigl was a great pick for Plum. The movie kept moving from start to finish, with Stephanie portrayed as not such a dimwit as in the novels. Only disappointment was in not developing Granma Mazur more. Was looking forward to her packing a 45 in her handbag and her funeral-visiting as her entertainment. Plus Lula, Stephanie's sidekick in future novels, was barely introduced, so I am hoping there's a sequel ( or sequels ) to this first novel-to-big screen flick. Get some popcorn, grab a soft drink, and enjoy!
Listlessly directed by Julie Anne Robinson (Miley Cyrus's The Last Song) from a script written by a trio of writers (Stacy Sherman, Karen Ray and Liz Brixius), One for the Money is tepidly glib throughout.
Yes, this film is based on the worldwide best-selling 18-book mystery series by Janet Evanovic.
