a5c7b9f00b The series tells the story of the aftermath of a global invasion by several races of extraterrestrials that neutralizes the world's power grid and technology, quickly destroys the combined militaries of all the world's countries, and apparently kills over 90% of the human population within a few days.
The chaotic aftermath of an alien attack has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.
The fight of good against evil? All means permitted to fight the enemy? The military, portrayed as a natural leader for the oppressed and poor, saving the world? Authority to those who have a gun or who can beat the others in a fight? An omnipresent evil enemy to justify all this? This series has it all.

Weave in personal dramas, some love stories and grief over friends and/or family killed by the aliens to get a gullible public addicted and you have got one of the the most reactionary opuses and reckless propaganda series for violence, arms and hate of aliens that I have seen so far.
This turned out to be one of the better science fiction series of recent years. For me it got off to a bad start with some cheap looking FX and poor acting which made me give up after the first season. However I tried again when it came on Netflix and I was hooked. The acting, writing, direction and FX had greatly improved and one could now get involved with the characters and their plight. The big minus though is the insane camera work which got worse with each season. Season 5 uses hand held cameras for every scene which made it almost unwatchable as the camera jumped all over the place. Why is it that D.O.P's these days find it necessary to wobble the camera about while the characters are having a conversation. Hand held cameras are OK for dramatic action scenes but their over-use can make the viewer physically sick, destroy any involvement or interest in the story....The final episode wrap up was a bit rushed but overall this was a great show and I am sad that it has ended...

So the mechs aren't just robots, they have pilots inside.

http://tinypic.com/r/1zodt06/8

; SPOILERS AHEAD: While the second answer posted above could be correct, I suspect it's not. As a fan of the show, and ONLY a fan, I've nonetheless paid very close attention to all aspects of it (and have consumed just about all sci-fi shows and movies going back to "Lost in Space" and the original "Star Trek" in the 60s).

As has been shown time and again in the show -- including in the most recent episode (Season 4, Aug. 10 -- Episode number isn't available to me at the moment), although many parts of Eshpheni technology are solid metal, and thus totally mechanical, many others are of a biomechanical nature, implying that the Eshpheni (whether they're totally biological beings, or not), have used integrated biomechanical features in almost all of their technology.

As was in evidence when Tom reached inside the "squishy portal" to activate the hatch to get inside the crashed Eshpheni ship, "something bit him," in other words, there was something "biomechan
