International Day of Action for South Korean Dogs and Cats - August 16th
IDA is again join forces with Coexistance for Animal Rights on Earth (CARE) against dog and cat meat consumption by co-hosting the 6th annual International Day of Action for South Korean Dogs and Cats. This year's global day of action will take place on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, to coincide with the first of South Korea's "Bok days" (literally, the hot, dog days of summer). Some South Koreans eat more dog meat this time of year because they believe eating animals who do not sweat will keep them cool.
In the past five years, IDA and CARE have successfully organized activists in over a dozen countries-from North and South America to Europe, Africa, and Asia-for this international day of protest. In the U.S., demonstrators converged on South Korean consulates and embassies in New York City, Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle, Phoenix, Chicago, Huston, Las Vegas, and Portland, Ore. to oppose the killing and eating of cats and dogs in South Korea.
