a5c7b9f00b Set in Japan during the 1870s, The Last Samurai tells the story of Capt. Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise), a respected American military officer hired by the Emperor of Japan to train the country's first army in the art of modern warfare. As the Emperor attempts to eradicate the ancient Imperial Samurai warriors in preparation for more Westernized and trade-friendly government policies, Algren finds himself unexpectedly impressed and influenced by his encounters with the Samurai, which places him at the center of a struggle between two eras and two worlds, with only his own sense of honor to guide him.
In Japan, Civil War veteran Captain Nathan Algren trains the Emperor's troops to use modern weapons as they prepare to defeat the last of the country's samurais. But Algren's passion is swayed when he is captured by the samurai and learns about their traditions and code of honor.
Bushido, a way of life for the Samurai. An ancient and truly beautiful legacy developed through a set of core values. A way of life that seems obsolete and archaic. Yet to a 21 year old male from Britain these sets of ideals appeal enormously. <br/><br/>In our world of instant gratification, self service, fast food, microwave meals, consumption, consumption and did I mention consumption? The bushido way of life sings to me. The ideals of frugality, Honour and Loyalty are something a dying world desperately needs. Could you imagine a populace who embraced these ideals? A wiser, fitter, intelligent race could exist perhaps. Maybe a struggling health system like ours in Blighty (The Uk), wouldn&#39;t be under the immense strain it&#39;s under. Maybe our selfish natures would shrink away and make way for a more embracing and accepting people. <br/><br/>As I watched the films climactic battle and saw the brave Samurai slaughtered by the new technology of Western culture, I let out a sigh and a saddening thought came to my mind. Perhaps those ideals died with that time period? This simple yet extraordinary way of life is gone. Dead and buried to make way for industry and egotistic men. <br/><br/>A truly brilliant piece of storytelling for an ideal that sadly is behind us. The cinematography, brilliant. The score, brilliant. The costumes and setting, brilliant.<br/><br/>Bravo.
Last Samurai is one of the best movies I&#39;ve ever seen. Tom Cruise as Nathan Algren is brilliant.<br/><br/>The development of the relationship between Algren and Taka and her sons was beautiful to see. Also a fantastic part of the film was the music.<br/><br/>In my opinion it is a wonderful film about humanity and identity in a globalized world, even if maybe there are some mistakes in the way it portrays Japanese culture in 19th century.
A handsome epic, a brave-hearted 19th-century man-saga from the director who made the period piece man-sagas ''Glory'' and ''Legends of the Fall.''
Captain Nathan Algren (<a href="/name/nm0000129/">Tom Cruise</a>), a disillusioned American war hero who fought alongside General George Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn, is hired to train the Emperor of Japan&#39;s troops to use firearms against an uprising of Imperial warriors led by the &quot;last samurai&quot; leader Katsumoto Morito (<a href="/name/nm0913822/">Ken Watanabe</a>). After being captured, nursed back to health, and trained to fight like a samurai, Algren must decide just whose side he is on. The Last Samurai is based on a screenplay by Americ
