a5c7b9f00b A billionaire software engineer and an ex-CIA agent team up to prevent crimes before they happen by using an Artificial Intelligence known as "The Machine". At the same time they must survive being hunted by the Government and protect The Machine at all costs.
Wealthy genius software engineer, who generally goes by the name Harold Finch, is the mastermind behind the creation of an all-seeing machine. Finch and his front man Nathan Ingram devised the machine to sell to the US government, who are unaware of Finch working behind the scenes. The purpose of the machine is so that the government can spot acts leading to terrorism to prevent those terrorist acts from occurring. But what the government considers irrelevant in its use of the machine are acts leading to murder. As such, Finch, without the government's knowledge that he has a back door to the machine, wants to prevent those murders. The machine only provides the social security number of someone involved, Finch unaware if that person is the target or perpetrator. He enlists the help of an ex-CIA special operative who generally goes by the name John Reese to assist in his mission, Reese who is officially listed as dead. But as Reese in particular often uses non-legal means to achieve Finch's end goal, he is tracked by the authorities, who only know him as the man in the suit. They are also tracked by those who are thwarted by the pair in carrying out this mission, and by the few who know of the machine's existence and who have their own nefarious thoughts of what to do with the machine if they can get their hands on it.
Contains spoilers. Read at your own risk. You have been warned.

Jonathan Nolan, writer of the short story Memento Mori and co-screenwriter of The Dark Knight, The Prestige and The Dark Knight Rises, created an excellent police drama the likes of which had never been seen before and likely will never be seen again if CBS does not decide to move forward with a spin-off of the show. The concept for the series blends together certain elements of several science-fiction novels turned photo-plays (most notably Steven Spielberg's Minority Report).

Jim Caviezel (Angel Eyes, High Crimes, Alexandre Dumas' The Count Of Monte Cristo, The Passion Of The Christ) plays John Reese, a presumed dead Central Intelligence Agent who is offered a job stopping violent crimes by mysterious billionaire Harold Finch (Michael Emerson).

The series is perfectly cast, from the main characters down to the villains, as if each role was written specifically with that actor and actress in mind. John Nolan (uncle of brothers Christopher and Jonathan Nolan) was an inspired choice to play The Englishman (recurring from season two until season five). In addition to Edmond Dantes and the Saviour of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ, Reese is the role that Jim Caviezel was born to play. He did it very well.

The series is very well written, with smart, snappy dialogue that fits each actor perfectly. One thing I really enjoy about the show is the blooming friendships betwixt Reese, Finch, Fusco, Carter, Shaw, Zoe and Root. For instance, in one episode, Finch is on a dangerous mission and Reese asks him several times if he needs his help; Finch declines each time, and Reese says, 'If you need my help, I'm there.' And Reese always helps out his friends even at the cost
