FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
ARTHUR MENECHINI JURY TRIAL TO START THE WEEK OF MARCH 15, 2010

Wilkes-Barre, PA - When Marianne Zelonis came home from work one Thursday evening last April, she found her three year old German Shepherd Kiera lying in the neighbor's yard. "I jumped out of the car and ran over to her and she had a bullet hole to her temple...she was dead." Zelonis' next door neighbor admitted it was her son who shot Kiera and said the shooting was done in self defense. At a preliminary hearing, Arthur Menechini admitted to killing Ms. Zelonis' pet and his attorney requested the charges be dropped. The judge did not agree to dismissal and a bench trial was determined. Since then, this has been changed to a jury trial. There have been two postponements, but the jury trial will begin with jury selection on March 15'th at Luzerne County Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Despite the short notice given, local animal welfare groups "Kiera's Kommittee" and "The
Animal Rights & Advocacy Committee", along with "Tracey's Hope" Hospice Care Program and Rescue for Domestic Animals, Inc. will be attending this trial, and extend an invitation to all interested parties to join them. Lodging will be provided for anyone who requires it.

"It is our intention to remind the public that this case has almost no precedence in this usually peaceful community, and we want to show our support for upholding the charges of animal cruelty and disorderly conduct. We believe it is of utmost importance that if convicted, Mr. Menechini receive the maximum sentence; both to appropriately punish him for these crimes and to send a message that this type of violent behavior against people's family pets will not be
tolerated here," said Virgil Night, a national animal rights advocate who will attend the trial.

Denise Kumor of Tracey's Hope added, "If we don't stand together for this cause, anyone will be able to shoot anyone's dog and get away with it. Mr. Menichini must pay for his actions! Please don't let distance stop you - our presence there could be vitally important to the
outcome of this case."
