#WePlantPeace

The "We Plant Peace" Movement originated in Ethiopia where Gashaw Tahir brought together over 2,500 Muslims and Christians in between 2006-2010 to plant over 1,000,000 trees to begin to "Make Africa Green Again"!

Gashaw was honored with a "National Green Hero" Award by the Ethiopian President and the United Nations Environmental Program in 2009. He was also recognized as an "International Tree Hero" in 2010 by the U.S. Government and World Leaders at the G-20 Environmental Summit in Toronto.

The "We Plant Peace" Movement continued in November 2014 at Prepa Tec Middle School in Huntington Park, California where Gashaw & "One World Declaration of Peace & Justice" co-author Seth D. King had the first "We Plant Peace" ceremony in the U.S. and originated for the first time the red and green apples held to symbolize diverse peoples coming together to plant trees and other food producing plants for peace!

The "We Plant Peace" Movement is now 1.) planting trees with student young people through schools, 2.) planting a tree for every birthday, and 3.) planting a tree at every wedding as part of the ceremony. This global call to action Tree Planting Movement is just beginning.

“We Plant Peace” Birthday Call to Action

Born in Ethiopia in 1959, Gashaw Tahir was an imprisoned war refugee who might never have seen his 17th birthday.

Still, he escaped and made it to America...
Nearly 3 decades later, over 4 years, he created a project which included over 2,500 Muslim and Christians. Together, they planted over 1,000,000 trees back in Ethiopia, the country of his birth.

In 2009, he was honored as National Green Hero by the Ethiopian government and recognized by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP). In 2010, he was recognized by the U.S. State Department and acknowledged by World Leaders at the G-20 Summit in Toronto for his exemplary work.

This year beginning at the 2015 Climate Change Summit in Paris, he is calling on each individual to plant just 1 tree each year in honor of their own Birthday.

If only 1 percent of the world's 7 Billion people did that for their birthday each year, that would be 70,000,000 trees planted every year, enough to significantly impact the ecology and reverse global warming!

Plant or have 1 tree planted for your birthday this year and every year!

This is 1 more way...
