My parents both died at 71, from smoking related diseases. I smoked from age 13 to age 50. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would ever be able to quit, even after many attempts with "approved" stop smoking aids. I tried the gum, the patches, cold turkey, gadgets and programs on TV, Chantix, Wellbutrin, counting cigarettes smoked, not counting cigarettes smoked, putting cigs out early, putting them out late, pretty much everything. I was able to recover from alcoholism and drug abuse, but couldn't kick the cigarettes. I first heard of e-cigarettes in about 2008. In August of 2009 I bought and tried my first "cigalike" vaping device from a mall kiosk. It was not great, but I immediately and instinctively knew the minute I tried ecigs that they had a possibility of working. The reason for that, is ecigs simulate smoking in every way. Hand to mouth movement, inhale/exhale, seeing the "smoke" which is vapor. Long story short, I continued ecigarette use, buying better quality products and in 3 months, I quit smoking entirely, in October 2009. I have not had an ecig since. I have vaped all day, everyday since. Vaping products now are much more effective in replacing combustible cigarettes. For 11 years I have watched the government try to outlaw, restrict and now tax ecigarettes like they are equal to smoking. The simple fact never changed, they are nothing like and nowhere near as harmful as smoking. Cigs kill because the CARRIER of nicotine is smoke. Smoke contains tars and thousands of chemicals caused by burning tobacco. People would have the same diseases of smoking if they stood over burning leaves and inhaled the smoke for hours a day. Vapes, despite the massive disinformation that is spread, contain no tar, very few chemicals and are simply unable to cause the harm to users that combustible tobacco does. With this years (first ever in 13 years) deaths, the hysteria was cranked up. Now we know for a fact that 2019 vaping disease was all due to vitamin E acetate, added to THC carts by drug dealers Youths are already, rightly prohibited from purchasing vape products. What congress is doing is outlawing all vapes for everybody, using feigned concern for teenagers. The only thing that will happen if this bill became law is smoking would return to it's previous levels for all age groups. The most important thing, that is never, ever said by politicians is that this increase in smoking will increase the government revenues from sale of cigarette products. The entire tobacco chain has suffered financially from introduction of vapes. Almost all states receive annual, perpetual payouts from tobacco companies cigarette sales, in proportion to those sales. Tobacco cigs kill 500,000 people annually, every year. Vapes kill zero people a year, except for THC/vitamin E outlaw cartridges in 2019. Tobacco cigs continue to be sold everywhere, with laws unchanged in any real way. Get a pack at any corner store in USA. Vapes were invented and are even now marketed by small, private individuals and businesses. Vapes original intent was to REPLACE cigarettes with a less harmful alternative. Ask yourself, why has the government been obsessed with demonizing, banning and taxing vapes like cigarettes, when they are not like cigarettes, for the last 13 years, which during the same time period, deadly cigarettes been sold as usual?
The answer is, the war on Vapes is all about the money and not one bit about the peoples safety. The government won't even do comprehensive safety studies on vapes. They had 13 years to do that. All the government has done is fight tooth and nail against a product that has killed very, very few people over 13 years, and left a product on the market , to be sold as always, that has killed 6,000,000 and sickened countless more over the same 13 year span of time.
I'd like to thank NC Rep. Budd for voting against this blatantly untruthful and harmful prohibitionist legislation. The only reason this measure passed the House is the democratic majority. 210 Democrats, 0 Republicans and 0 Independents voted FOR this bill. 11 Democrats, 188 Republicans and 1 Independent voted AGAINST this bill. Democrats would fast track entire USA to Nanny State if they had their way. This is but one small piece of a much larger picture, where Democrats remove the individuals ability to make their own decisions and insert a Central State government in place to make all the decisions for everybody. Of course, the Democrats would be in charge of the Nanny State, should that come to pass.
