I am a student currently at the university level and a do believe in upholding the second amendment, I do not agree in an intellectual location of debate, and free expression guns should be carried. I've personally witnessed people that have been full of rage and violence at simple things as a dispute. My roommate was even punched in the face. Now multiple people with guns and free use like in a stand your ground state such as I live in would not prevent violent acts. I have never witnessed any sort of dangerous attack the 3 years of my schooling. It is not illegal to carry if you live off campus and throughout the liberal city, that I live in, though some business owners have the right to not allow people to carry in there establishments. There are also drug dealers that compete all over campus, and imagine what it would be like if they were allowed to be armed, this is not exclusive to my school. I also have witnessed people almost run down by vehicles on a walking campus, per stand your ground and vehicles classification as essentially being weapons hypothetically you could legally fire at a vehicle that posed a threat to life, on a walking campus. So many disputes that are delt with via the law institutions and speaking, would even under penalty of law have guns added to the equation. This is something that we must think about. High schools don't allow arms for all these reasons. But with no way to prevent unstable people from owning weapons especially in my home state of Arizona, and no way to adequately protect responsible gun owners, from unresponsible people who feel they have to solve everything with violence, it is not smart to allow this. We have to take human nature into account and protect our rights, but not allow the idea of I can do what ever I want even if it hurts others to persist. It must be mutual respect that we foster, so that libertarianism is understood and not misconstrued and used to not include respect for everyone else's rights as well as our own.
