Having worked in schools as a social worker on one hand, and a teachers’ union organizer on the other, I know well the perils of working around kids and young adults.
Guns don’t belong in schools. All it takes is one accidentally misplaced gun. Like the time someone left a loaded handgun in one of the Capitol bathrooms in Feb. 2019 (left by a Capitol Police officer no less). Or the time the Prescott, AZ police chief left his loaded gun in the bathroom of a public library in 2017 and didn’t realize it until 5 days later. Or the time a woman left her loaded Ruger in the bathroom of the Elmbrook church in WI where there was a kids’ book festival about to be held. Or the time a school resource officer left his loaded gun in the bathroom of Dardanelle Primary school in AK. There are countless examples of carelessness that could have resulted in a child being hurt or killed.
More guns in schools means more opportunities for tragedy, unintended or otherwise. I wholeheartedly oppose any measure that would put more guns in schools.
