Quite frankly, there is no rational reason for any member of congress to receive a pension for life. This is supposed to be a public service job serving the people, not a road to a cushy retirement that no average citizen has access to. They should have the same retirement that we all do at this time - 401K, IRA, Social security, and all of the applicable tax laws that go with it. Same for health care. How can our government have access to a system that is not available to the American people? Our government needs to live by the laws, regulations, and programs that they approve - not above them. I’m sure that their time in office would be a great resume builder if they are looking for an income after office.
