Insanity. If you think healthcare is expensive now, wait until it’s “free”!
The best way to efficiently provide health care to all is to open up common items to market forces. It’s crazy that Americans don’t price shop for non-emergency items like physicals, cavity fillings, allergy shots, inoculations, dental cleanings, tonsillectomies, etc. Force providers to publish all costs so consumers can know up front what the charges will be.
Employer provided (or govt for the poor) health spending accounts where you could roll any left-over amount into a retirement savings account, would provide an incentive for people to seek lower cost providers that would drive efficiency into the market. There could still be catastrophic insurance for things like cancer, heart attacks, stroke, emergency operations, etc. so people with these issues aren’t bankrupted. Competition is what makes capitalism so powerful.
