People have argued that free tuition works in other nations, not exactly. The institutions in United States have produced more peer reviewed research articles than every other nation combined. Also, American degrees consistently pull higher salaries than degrees from institutions in other nations. We can all agree that the system needs to be revised, but it shouldn't be free. 1) because the cost would just be passed along to the taxpayer 2) because there are better options to reduce the price that doesnt involve billions (possibly trillions) of government spending. For example, what about only allowing educational institutions offer student loans, and not banks/government? This would put the burden of making college affordable in the hands of the institutions offering the higher education, and not the government.
