First off, the argument that "oh well laws won't protect people anyway so why make them" is dumb. Yes, some people suck either way. But why not make means to hold them accountable? This bill is just like any other protections currently in place for race, religion, gender, etc. We need to protect our youth and prevent the violence and suicide that disproportionately affects LGBTQ+ kids. And the bill literally says the following: "Nothing in this Act shall be construed to alter legal standards regarding, or affect the rights available to individuals or groups under, other Federal laws that establish protections for freedom of speech and expression, such as legal standards and rights available to religious and other student groups under the 1st Amendment to the Constitution and the Equal Access Act ... The obligations imposed by this Act are in addition to those imposed by title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990."
